His Excellency Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council on Wednesday 5th April formally received the Global Water Changemakers Award which had been presented to him in absentia during the UN Water Conference in New York. H.E Mwinyi, was awarded the local country leadership award alongside the President of Zambia, His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema for leading national efforts in ending water and sanitation challenges following the launch of the Zanzibar Water Investment Programme and the Zambia Water Investment Programme respectively.
Global Water Partnership and the Government of Tanzania are working on strategies that will improve the country’s management of water resources, with the aim of increasing water security and improving the economy.
The Government of Tanzania says it is implementing various water projects to increase access to water which by June 2022, water supply in villages stood at 72.1 percent and 86 percent in urban areas.
The President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi has honoured the Executive Director of Global Water Partnership Tanzania, Dr. Victor Kongo with a Leadership Award for his relentless efforts in providing technical support to the water and sanitation sector in Zanzibar. Dr. Kongo received the award during the opening session of the 2023 Zanzibar Water Conference that was held from 16th to 17th August 2023. Impedit nulla sed aut est velit animi.
